Bike and Skate Trails

Nashua River Rail Trail

Nashua River Rail Trail :: Trail from Ayer, Groton, Pepperell, Dunstable, MA to Nashua, NH (12 miles)

 

Activities: Walk, Horseback, Bicycle, Cross Country Ski, Inline Skates, Wheel Chair, Dog walking.

Bathrooms: available in Ayer.

Food: Pepperell is a great stop for an ice cream break or for some food.

 

Parking:

Ayer Center parking lot (60 paved spaces)
Take Rte. 2 east or west to exit 38B, then follow Route 111 north to Ayer Rotary. Go halfway around rotary to Rte. 2A. On Rte. 2A turn right after Ayer Center, take first right on Groton Street to trail parking lot on the right.

Groton Center parking (Court Street 10-15 spaces)
Take I-495 north or south to exit 31, then Rte. 119 west approximately seven miles to Groton Center. Take left at Station Ave. to the on-street parking area beside the trail.

Groton Sand Hill Road parking (10-15 gravel spaces)
Take I-495 north or south to exit 31, then Rte. 119 west approximately ten miles. Take dog leg right on Nod Road and right on Sand Hill Road. Follow Sand Hill Road to parking area on the right after crossing rail trail.

Dunstable state line parking (10 gravel spaces)
Take Rte. 3 to Exit 35, then Rte. 113 west beyond Dunstable Center. Take right on Hollis Street to New Hampshire state line. Parking is on the left.

 

 

Minuteman Bikeway

Minuteman Bikeway :: Trail from Bedford, Lexington, Arlington and Cambridge, MA (11 miles)

 

Activities: Walk, Bicycle, Inline Skates, Wheelchair, Dog Walking

Bathrooms: Bedford Depot Park, Lexington Visitor’s Center, and Alewife Station

Food: Lexington, Bedford, Arlington, Alewife

Points of interest: The first battle of the American Revolution was fought at Lexington Common, hence the name Minuteman. Lots of great shops in Lexington and great place to take a break before heading back to Westford.

 

Parking:

By car to Bedford:

Coming from Interstate 95 (MA-Rte 128), take exit 31B for Routes 4/225 North toward Bedford [area map]. At the fourth traffic signal (and CVS store), turn left on Loomis St. Go to end of street to intersection with South Rd. The bikeway is adjacent to the Freight House building. See below for a basic roadmap of the area.

 

By car to Arlington/Lexington:

Municipal parking lots are available in Lexington Center [area map] and Arlington Center [area map], near the bikeway. See below for a basic roadmap of the area.

 

By car to Alewife/Cambridge:

Take Route 2 toward Arlington/Cambridge, and enter the Alewife “T” Station parking garage [area map]. (Parking fee charged upon exiting.) Bikeway is to the west of the station. See below for a basic roadmap of the area.

 

 

 

Assabet River Rail Trail (Not completed in Acton yet)

Points of interest: Trail follows the Assabet River and through some urban (Marlborough, Hudson and Maynard) and rural settings (Stow and Acton). Plenty of wildlife can be observed along the way.

Acton: 0.9 miles to South Acton MBTA parking lot, Main Street Bridge at Maple Street, Beacon Building.
